YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

WHAT IS IT?
The WECA Youth Leadership Conference (YLC) is a dynamic three-day event for youth leaders across Wisconsin to develop their leadership skills and to learn about the purpose, operation, and scope of cooperative business. For over 60 years, YLC has provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn about cooperatives and then apply these time-tested principles in their own lives.
WHEN & WHERE?
A weekend in July at UW-Stout Campus.
WHO CAN GO?
Sophomore, junior, and senior high school students whose parent(s)/guardian(s) are members of ECEC.
WHAT'S THE PURPOSE?
  • Introduce the structure of a cooperative business
  • Examine the scope of electric cooperatives and how they affect everyday life
  • Demonstrate the power and value of cooperation
  • Help identify and develop leadership skills
  • Provide a forum for teens to discuss issues and solutions important to them
  • Bring together youth leaders from across Wisconsin
  • Provide an opportunity for students to experience college life
HOW IS IT UNIQUE?
  • Students are selected to attend and are sponsored by their electric cooperative
  • Conference agenda is developed with input from the youth board
  • Students live on a college campus and experience a college environment complete with learning from college professors and living in residence halls
  • Youth board members have the opportunity to attend the annual NRECA National Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. the following June.
